Community Involvement

Capital Study Club - Directed by Dr. Richard Akin

Our mission statement, “Excellence in Clinical Dentistry, Growth through Collaboration,” reflects our conviction to bring world class multifaceted professional and personal development to members. This growth is accomplished through collaborative, active learning and sharing within our small group environment. Coordination between the restorative doctor, the surgeon and the laboratory has been the key ingredient in achieving successful results for patients. Therefore, we have committed to organizing a network of restorative dentists who are interested in practice growth, utilizing a comprehensive view with treatment planning and innovative treatment modalities.  As we enter our eleventh year, learning within the structure of the club has ultimately allowed us to move towards excellence in every facet of our practices.

No Kid Hungry

Since 2010, No Kid Hungry has been working in Louisiana, where their initial focus was on increasing access to nutrition programs for children in New Orleans in partnership with then-Mayor Mitch Landrieu. With the leadership of Governor John Bel Edwards and First Lady Donna Edwards, they have since expanded their efforts statewide. Their local staff collaborate with the Governor’s Office and the Children’s Cabinet to educate and engage school leaders, promote granting opportunities, and raise awareness about the positive impacts that school breakfast and afterschool and summer meal programs provide to kids in need.

TakeCare Baton Rouge

The mission of TakeCare Baton Rouge is to partner with members of a neighborhood community in order to address their needs and, in turn, become better positioned to ensure the children are well developed, ready for school and for life. This synergy will reduce generational poverty, the root cause of the developmental delays and challenges that children often face. TakeCare’s initial location is the High Farms neighborhood, north of Southern University in Baton Rouge.

Knights of Columbus

All the good works they do are informed by their four core principles:
1. Charity – Our Catholic faith teaches us to “Love thy neighbor as thyself.” Members of the Knights of Columbus show love for their neighbors by conducting food drives and donating the food to local soup kitchens and food pantries, by volunteering at Special Olympics, and by supporting, both spiritually and materially, mothers who choose life for their babies.
2. Unity – None of us is as good as all of us. Members of the Knights of Columbus all know that – together – we can accomplish far more than any of us could individually.
3. Fraternity – Blessed Michael J. McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus, in large part, to provide assistance to the widows and children left behind when the family breadwinner died – often prematurely.
4. Patriotism – Members of the Knights of Columbus, be they Americans, Canadians, Mexicans, Cubans, Filipinos, Poles, or Dominicans, are patriotic citizens. We are proud of our devotion to God and country and believe in standing up for both.
