Tooth Exposure and Bracketing

There are times when adult teeth do not erupt normally. This is often the case with wisdom teeth which are the most commonly impacted teeth in the mouth. Other times, functional teeth are impacted necessitating a procedure called tooth exposure with bracketing. This procedure is most commonly performed on canine teeth and typically involves both the oral surgeon and an orthodontist. Occasionally surgical exposure of the tooth is all that is required but more often a bracket is bonded to assist the orthodontist with bringing the tooth into proper position in the mouth.
