Richard Akin, DDS, MD, earned both his Doctor of Dental Surgery and Doctor of Medicine from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. Following his graduation from the LSU Medical School, he completed his surgical residency program in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at LSU and Charity Hospital in New Orleans. He is Board Certified in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Akin is the founder of the Capital Study Club, which is an award winning local chapter of the Seattle Study Club. His club is an interdisciplinary team of approximately 20 local dentists and dental specialists whose mission is promote ideal patient care through collaborative learning.
Dr. Akin lectures locally and nationally on topics related to minimally invasive dental implant surgery and will be teaching dentists about dental implants in his first hands-on course in Bellevue, WA in July 2013.
He was one of approximately 20 doctors in the United States to be asked to take part in the launch of ground breaking trabecular metal dental implant developed by Zimmer Dental.
Dr. Akin has also trained at the Pankey Institute which is one of the most highly respected post graduate learning environments in the US.
He has a private practice in Baton Rouge where he resides with his wife and family.
